How to Successfully Sell Things on eBay

 Ebay allows you to sell everything from old junk to new retail merchandise. This marketplace can serve as both a blessing and a curse, because while you can find customers across the entire world, you must also contend with competition from around the world. In order to sell successfully on eBay, you will need a basic understanding of how the online market works and how to give yourself an edge over your competition.

1 - Choose items that have a history of success on eBay. To do a bit of research, click the “Advanced” option beside the eBay “Search” field, enter an item into the search field, such as “Antique Coke Bottle,” and check the “Completed Listings” box. Click “Search” to see how well the item has sold recently for other sellers.

       

2 - Sell items with high profitability. For instance, if a certain book costs $14 from a factory wholesaler, but only sells for an average of $16 on eBay, it is probably not worth your time. But if you can buy a particular DVD set for $75 at a wholesale warehouse and sell it for $90 on eBay, you may want to consider it.

      

3 - Take plenty of photos. Buyers want to see an item as vividly as possible, and the more high-resolution photos you can include, the more faith a buyer will have. This is especially important for items like vehicles, artwork and antiques, but less important for items like new books and DVDs.

       

4 - Insert a low starting price. When placing items up for auction, you can encourage spirited bidding wars and ultimately improve your final sale price by starting with a low number, such as 99 cents. If you start closer to the retail price, some buyers will feel less inclined to bid. If the prospect of starting low makes you uneasy, you can use the “Reserve” option to insert a reserve price, meaning that the bids must reach a minimum price in order for the item to sell.


5 - Maintain excellent customer service. When you communicate quickly with your buyers in a friendly manner, describe your items with absolutely honesty and ship to your buyers quickly, you will maintain a high or even perfect eBay rating, which distinguishes you as a worthwhile seller and ultimately encourages more buyers to do business with you.
