- Clip off a section as wide as the roller down the center of your head, forehead to neck, like a mohawk.
- Separate the remaining side hair to make two sections parted behind the ear.
- If you have bangs, clip them out of your way and grab your first section. Use the diameter of the roller as a guide for the width of your sections.
- Spray each section individually with a thermal setting spray for extra hold and heat protection.
- Wrap the ends over the roller and down to your scalp. Careful, they're hot.
- Most hot roller sets include u-shaped pins to hold the roller in place. They don't work very well. For a for a few dollars you can get a set of plastic roller clamps at the beauty supply store and life will be much simpler.
- I like to use the largest rollers in my crown and the smaller rollers around the perimeter of my hair. You can alternate the sizes throughout or use them at random. It doesn't make a huge difference in the end, but those big, fatty rollers like to fall out if they're on the bottom.
- Place two or three rollers in each side section. Try parting the front on a diagonal and roll the curls toward or away from your face.
- Spray the set evenly with a working hairspray.
- Clearly this does not have to be precise.
- Style your bangs, brush your teeth and do your make up while you wait for the rollers to cool completely.
- Test a curl and make sure they have cooled down before taking down all of the rollers.
- If you are wearing your hair up, now is the time to start pinning it into shape without breaking up the curls.
- Use a small amount of smoothing oil to add shine and eliminate frizz.
- Work it around in your hands first. Otherwise, you will have a nice greasy spot in the first place you touch your hair.
- rake your hands through the curls, concentrating the product mainly on your ends.
- Use a brush with natural bristles to soften and smooth out the curl
- Piece out the ends and define a few random strands with your fingertips.
- Finish with a movable hairspray.
- Ooh, la-la!
