When a baby gets sick it can be upsetting and confusing for the parents, especially with their first child since they don't know what to expect or what to do. You may not be able to take your baby to the doctor for medication so being able to treat a cold at home with natural ingredients may be necessary. There are a lot of things you can do to ease the symptoms and make the cold go away naturally.

Home Remedies for a Baby With a Cold

Home remedies can help you save some money on costly medical bills if your baby seems to get sick often or if you don't have medical insurance to cover the expenses. Home remedies can ease the baby's discomfort as the baby gets over its illness.

Milk and Tumeric

Heat 1 tbsp. of milk and a pinch of tumeric in a small saucepan. Feed this to your baby with a dropper. The tumeric will help clear up the congestion while the milk will soothe the infant and allow him to sleep and relax.

Set up a humidifier in the baby's room to help the her breathe more easily and clear up the congestion that is causing the cold. Continue this even after the cold passes to prevent it from flaring up again and returning.

Saffron and Water

Grind some saffron into a bit of water so it forms a thick paste. Rub the paste onto the baby's chest, throat, nose, back and forehead. Leave on overnight to help open the passageways and relieve congestion and pressure.

Cool Sponge Bath

Give the baby a cool sponge bath to cool the baby's fever. Then give the baby lots of water and keep him hydrated to prevent dehydration and diarrhea.

If the cold persists for more than a few days and the home remedies are not working or the child has an adverse reaction to the home remedies, take the baby to a doctor or the hospital immediately.
