I had some fun with colorful beads when I made this necklace from wooden beads, metal jewelry wire and chain.
This beautiful glass bead necklace inspired my wooden cluster bead necklace.
- The Materials: Wooden beads, 2.74 mm jewelry wire, thin jewelry wire, chain, pliers, 4 jump rings, a hammer and a necklace clasp
- Before making the metal pendant to wrap the beads, I created a color pattern and measured the length of the beads.
- Once I knew how long the beads would be on the pendant, I cut 2.7 mm-thick jewelry wire to fit my pattern.
- As you can see the wire is round, but fits the size I'll need to add the beads. Next, I'll flatten the wire to create a bead base.
- To flatten the jewelry wire I used a hammer to lightly tap the wire. It made a nice patina on the cement.
- Getting the wire flat was easy, but I had to be careful I didn't break the wire which was really malleable. I also bent the edges to create a loop so I could fasten the chain later.
- After flattening the wire, I began to add the beads and twist them on with wire. It was much more challenging than I thought it would be!
- As I added beads, I couldn't get them to align straight like the glass bead pic I was using as my example. Luckily, as they shifted into a cluster, they looked totally cute.
- One thing that helped me create this necklace: ample light!
- After I attached the beads, I fastened on a chain I had measured to fit around my neck where I wanted the necklace to rest on my chest. Unfortunately, I forgot to get jump rings to attach the chain, so I had to use the thin jewelry wire I used to attach the beads and knot the ends.
- After attaching the chain and clasp, my necklace was complete.
- Sometimes a mistake can make your project more unique.
